Zero Cow Factory is working on technologies to produce “smart” dairy proteins (such as casein and whey) in India without the involvement of any animal by using bioengineering microbes and precision fermentation.

Zero Cow Factory Quick Facts:

  • Zero Cow Factory’s first product, A2 beta casein, is healthier than its A1 milk protein counterpart which causes indigestion – the company aims to be the first company globally to get regulatory approval for this protein and which protein will be used to formulate various sustainable and diary products

  • Will have lowest protein production cost in the world by 2025 at US$20/kg

  • The company is targeting at being among the world’s first 3 companies to commercialize production

  • On a mission to feed 10 billion people sustainably by 2050

  • Impact is delivered through healthier dairy, animal welfare, climate friendliness and significantly less usage of water/land/energy consumption

When we first began our journey in raising external capital, there weren’t many climate-focused funds available in India to speak to who understood the global impact of alternative protein or cellular agriculture on decarbonization and SDGs. Therefore, we were able to connect immediately with Green Frontier Capital from the first meeting itself (as both Sandiip and Rudra had already invested personally in several foodtech companies in the USA and Singapore even before GFC was started). In both Sandiip and Rudra, we found investors who were incredibly supportive of our efforts and future strategy. Right from that first meeting, their joint global experience has been very helpful in guiding us and we believe that just like it has done for us, shall go a long way in guiding the next generation of companies from India focused on climate action. We are really excited about partnering with GFC especially as we embark upon a mission to become India's largest animal-free sustainable proteins and ingredients company with a singular purpose of feeding an ever-growing global population sustainably.
